September 3-6 2013

Tuesday– Welcome back students!  We have a new classroom in the old library, and we are welcoming a couple brand new students.  It is going to be a great year!

This year the class rules that the students decided on are as following:

  • Be respectful
  • Respect learning
  • Raise our hand without interrupting
  • Think before we do
  • Be kind and compassionate

Those rules (through Christ’s strength) are the backbone of everything we’ll do this year.  We are starting out in 1 Peter, and Peter urges us to be holy as God is holy.  Now that’s something to strive for!

Wednesday– We worked hard this morning and completed a reading comprehension passage.  This won’t be for a grade, but it helps me know where the students are at with their reading.  In the afternoon, we talked about the layers of the earth and tried to put different Native American homes on the map according to what resources they would have had to build their houses.

Homework: Students need to turn in a signed rules sheet by Friday.  I would like them to go over the rules with their family and have a parent sign the sheet as well.

Note: Students can feel free to bring in rocks from their rock collection throughout the month as we learn about rocks and fossils.  We’ve already had some very cool rocks and crystals coming in!

ThursdayIt’s library day!  Students: click on the blue links below to play some games about nouns! Go ahead and practice at home!

Homework: If students didn’t finish the science exit ticket or reading comprehension questions, those are homework.

Friday– Congratulations on making it through the first week of school!  Everyone did a terrific job.  Today we went through 1 Peter 1 and played a couple grammar games (remember that you can click the blue links above and get practice with common and proper nouns over the weekend).  This afternoon, we reviewed the layers of the earth, weathering, and erosion by completing a science workbook page.  We also attempted to construct a small-scale model of a Mandan lodge in Heritage.
Homework: Students may need to finish science workbook pages 3-4 and handwriting.  We will continue to construct our Mandan lodges on Monday.  You might choose to bring an outfit that can get a little dirty.

*Note: I have uploaded the first few grades of the quarter.  You can check grades any time online.  There is a blue link near the top right hand side of the screen under the heading “Go To:” that will bring you to the grades.  Enter your access code and password to view.  You can email me if you’ve lost your access code and I’ll send you a new one.
